ATV Racing 101
Maxxis sponsors riders in a variety of ATV racing formats, including cross country, motocross, and freestyle. The company has dominated prominent series, including the GNCC, for several years, and fan participation and interest continues to grow. National events are discussed below, but there are also hundreds of local and regional race events and series which fans can follow. Jargon/Terminology for ATV Racing
While a good list of ATV racing slang is difficult to locate on the web, several commonly heard terms are defined below. Most terms overlap with the jargon of off-road motorcycle racing.

Berm: A dirt pile that forms as riders take a turn over and over again forming a bank.

Case: Landing short on a jump.

Holeshot: Being in the lead after the first turn.

Rut: A trench that forms from spinning rear wheels. Ruts can form anywhere on race tracks.
Cross Country
Cross country races are held on natural terrain through either woods or desert, and may include motocross sections. Courses vary in length. Races generally last no less than two hours, and rules vary from series to series.

ATV Motocross

Motocross ATV racing takes place on a dirt circuit track, groomed with sharp corners and varying sized jumps. AMA/ATVA MX Nationals races last for 20 minutes plus one lap.

reeStyle:
ATV Freestyle is not racing. Instead, riders put on an aerial display of tricks. Tricks may be scored by judges or may be performed simply as an exhibition. Either way, fans watch in wonder as riders perform Supermans, Barhops, Hart Attacks, Cordovas, backflips, Nac Nac's, Heelclickers, and more.
