Ballance 1st at GNCC Loretta Lynn’s
4/21/2009Nine-time champ Bill Ballance rode Razrs back to the winner’s circle at Round 5 of the GNCC series. “I'm getting better and stronger. Oh man, it puts me back in the hunt,” Ballance told gnccracing.com of his first win of the year. The race was held April 18 at Loretta Lynn’s in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.
Saturday’s victory was a special triumph for Ballance, who underwent rib surgery shortly before the beginning of the season. Gaining the lead in the fourth lap, he held the front position and finished in 2:06:21.921 hours. Despite his growing fatigue, "I gritted my teeth and started pushing as hard as I could until the finish line,” Ballance told gnccracing.com.
Several of Ballance’s fellow Maxxis riders also turned in great performances at Loretta Lynn’s. Brandon Sommers took second place, with Bryan Cook in fourth, Taylor Kiser in fifth and Donnie Ockerman in eighth place.
Eric Hoyland took a spot on the XC2 Pro Am podium with a third place finish, while Walker Fowler won the College A class. Traci Cecco took her first victory of the season in the women’s race.
Maxxis congratulates Bill Ballance on his victory and thanks all of these riders for their fine performances.
